50 WAYS TO SELF-CARE

The Finding Happy Series from Make Me A Plan's Mindfulness Expert, Aria Robbins.

1.       Pay complete attention to something you usually do on auto pilot, e.g getting dressed, making coffee

2.       Be selfish, do something for you today!

3.       De-clutter your wardrobe, go through your clothes and throw out anything you haven’t worn for a while or that doesn’t inspire you.

4.       Remove negativity, from your Social Media and from your daily life, replace this with people and things which inspire you.

5.       Do a body scan, this is a meditation technique where you check in with all the parts of your body. Remain still and consciously think about each aspect of your body and any areas of tension you need to remove.

6.       Eat some fruit and/or vegetables today. Bodies require nutrients, give yours what it needs.

7.       Take 5 minutes to list all the positive things about yourself.

8.       Tidy your living space, I was always told ‘tidy home, tidy mind’ when I was younger and that has really stuck with me.

9.       Sleep more! Tonight, instead of your usual hours of sleep, add a couple extra. Tuck in for an early night and let your body enjoy all the rest.

10.   Drink some water. Even if it’s just one glass, one is better than none.

11.   Grab some sunshine (if there is any) lay in it, relish it, soak up that Vitamin D.

12.   Cook for yourself tonight.  Something healthy and meaningful, your favourite dish or something that reminds you of home.

13.   Dance around for 10 minutes. Put on some of your favourite music and have a boogie!

14.   Have a bubble bath. Soak in some Epsom Salts and draw all the toxins and stress away.

15.   Give your hair a conditioning treatment. Let the conditioner sit on your hair for 30 mins the nwash it away and feel the softness.

16.   Do a face mask. Maybe at the same time you do the conditioning treatment, double whammy!

17.   Lotion up! Grab your favourite lotion and rub it all over, make your skin feel loved and silky smooth.

18.   Be still. Just for a moment, be still and take in all the smells, sounds and feelings around you.

19.   Have a nap. A 20-minute nap can re-energise your body for the day.

20.   Do a good deed. Help someone today, open the door, carry the bags or give a compliment.

21.   Talk to your friends. How are they? Do they need some extra support?

22.   Talk to your family. Same applies.

23.   Relish in the sunset. Take in all it’s natural beauty and wonder.

24.   Seek out beautiful things. Look for a flower that looks wonderful, a view that’s breath-taking, smile at the couple in love.

25.   Go on a date with yourself. Do whatever you wanna do and spoil yourself in the process.

26.   Go for a walk. We miss so many sights and views when we are driving around, go and take in your neighbourhood.

27.   Buy yourself some flowers.

28.   Light some candles or wax melts. Pick your favourites and take in the scent.

31.   Find a new book.

32.   Paint your nails or get them painted.

33.   Arrange a night in. Make the most of spending the time with your friends.

35.   Book a boxing or kickboxing class. Same applies, it’s great to get out your aggression in any positive way.

45.   Do something you love. Whether it’s horseback riding or taking a nap, do something you love today.

46.   Do some grounding techniques. Have you hit maximum on your stress levels? Sit down, rub your bare feet on the floor, take some deep breathes, find 3 things around you that you love, find two things that smell amazing and eat or drink one thing that is delicious. Your senses have a huge affect on your mood, reward them.

47.   Write. Write out all your feelings, thoughts and worries.
